For most of the running time of The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters in seven years, it’s a romp with the titular characters… right up until the New Republic maybe commits a massive war crime.

Sony’s big State of Play announcement was God of War Laufey, the next game in Sony Santa Monica’s God of War franchise due out exclusively for PlayStation 5. While the fact the game would focus on Faye as opposed to Kratos had leaked months before the showcase, it’s fair to say Sony’s 20 minute gameplay reveal sparked a vociferous reaction across the internet.

The rumors about a new God of War game proved to be true during Sony's latest State of Play event. That's why the reveal of God of War Laufey wasn't unexpected. What was a surprise was its cubic, talking, gelatin-like companion character, Phranque (as voiced by The Boys' Jack Quaid), is the character who turned out to be the breakout star of State of Play. Even though I pay attention to these things for a living, I almost didn't realize that Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 was coming up so quickly.
