Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was officially announced today, and it'll be releasing in October. Prior to its full launch, however, the game will have an open beta, and as per usual, you're going to have an opportunity to get in early. The open beta was confirmed via a post on the official Call of Duty blog, but Activision went short of saying exactly when the beta will be. If you've played the Call of Duty games in recent years--arguably any of them past the first handful--then you know the games tend to star heroes with near-superhuman reflexes, athletic abilities, and rapid decision-making. For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward is taking a step back, partially, from these larger-than-life heroes and putting you back in the boots of a regular "grunt" soldier. We already know a few things about this year's Call of Duty game. Earlier this year, Activision confirmed that the game would skip PS4 and Xbox One (something that wasn't true for last year's Black Ops 7). There were also rumours that the game would return to the Modern Warfare series, though that was just a suggestion until last night.
