At its core, the design of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the remake or "reimagining" of the 1996 original, attempts to blend the classic feel of Lara Croft’s movement with a more modern approach to combat and exploration.

HD-2D, the retro-cool art style spearheaded by Square Enix and imitated by many others, was originally built as a way to pay homage to classic Super NES-era role-playing games while also making them look distinctly modern.
