Rayman Legends wasn't exactly the smash-hit blockbuster Ubisoft was hoping for when it launched back in 2013, but commercial success be damned--it was one of the best platformers ever made. Now, it appears everyone's favorite limbless adventurer is getting another shot at the spotlight, with a Rayman Legends remake reportedly releasing later this year. As reported by Insider Gaming, who said the former Prince of Persia team is involved in its creation, the remade game is apparently called Rayman Legends Retold, and is planned for an October release. Ubisoft reveals why it decided to revive Rayman by remaking the most recent game in the series, rather than starting from the first one.

I'm not always fond of the constant remaking of games that don't necessarily need a remake, especially if it's not going to be a fundamental rethinking of the source material. And taking a distinct, somewhat whimsical 2D art style and making it denser in 3D doesn't automatically make it look "better" per se. But I think Rayman Legends Retold is just imaginative enough to separate itself from the original.
