The 2026 Summer Game Fest showcase kicked off with another Resi remake.

Capcom has revealed a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, delighting fans of the franchise watching this year's Summer Game Fest livestream.

Just like (well, not just like) the original 2000 game, Resident Evil: Veronica will be played from a third-person perspective. The news was shared with GameSpot during a group Q&A session at Summer Game Fest, which is also where Capcom officially announced the game to the public. The original Resident Evil: Code Veronica was also played in third-person--just like most of the older Resident Evil games--but it utilized the clunkier "tank" controls of the PlayStation originals. For Resident Evil: Veronica, GameSpot was told the closest gameplay corollary would be the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Resident Evil: Veronica--a full remake of the 2000 game Resident Evil: Code Veronica--was announced during Summer Game Fest Live earlier this month, but why was now the right time to remake the survival-horror classic? For Capcom, it came down to a mixture of technology and characters. Speaking to GameSpot during Summer Game Fest, Capcom said that there is no set process in determining which game gets a remake next, but the pieces just seemed to line up because of which characters the recent games have focused on.
