Small Dragon Big Appetite

Square Enix issued a significant update on Dragon Quest 12 today, giving fans a quick look at the long-awaited RPG sequel. The Japanese company also dropped the bombshell that the game’s development was restarted from scratch. As a result, Dragon Quest 12's original subtitle, The Flames of Fate, was ditched in favor of Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams.

Things really aren't looking good for Gang of Dragon, the Yakuza spiritual successor from former Sega and RGG Studios bigwig Toshihiro Nagoshi's eponymous Nagoshi Studio. Between reports of publisher NetEase pulling financial backing and the studio's YouTube channel vanishing-then-reappearing quietly in a seeming "no worries, everything is fine here" moment, fans eager to see more of Gang of Dragon after its The Game Awards debut last year have been feeling an ever-creeping dread about the game's fate. Today the title had yet another very big, very visible setback ... or rather, not-so-visible

Square Enix is on a bit of a roll with its Switch 2 ports at the moment, as I'm sure Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is very keen to remind you. But today, Square Enix's other big RPG behemoth is in the spotlight, as a classification for a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest 11 S has surfaced in Taiwan.
