Starlight X-2: Galactic Puzzles

Not only were my fears of the roguelite loop unfounded, but the Burnout roots baked into developer Fuse Games’s DNA was joyously evident in every moment I spent on the track with Star Wars: Galactic Racer. And the times I wasn’t going hundreds of miles per hour when I was on foot did a great job of further Star Wars-ifying my experience. I’m incredibly optimistic about what I’ve seen from this long overdue spiritual successor to Episode 1: Pod Racer, and I can’t wait to play more of it.

Great racing games have an x-factor that sets them apart from their peers, but you could argue that the genre hasn't meaningfully evolved over the decades. Star Wars: Galactic Racer aims to change that perception, as the new title from developer Fuse Games looks to other genres for inspiration. While it might look like a spiritual successor to 1999's Star Wars Episode 1: Pod Racer, Galactic Racer adds in some roguelite flavor and a dash of Burnout to its take on high-speed competition in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: Galactic Racer draws on the real history of hot rod racing post-World War II to tell a New Republic racing story.

A solid and fairly plain upgrade on the original, but not wholly better either.
