Game of Thrones: War of Westeros is shaping up to be an impressive RTS, especially for folks that are looking to scratch that base-building fantasy itch. Still, from the other three launch factions, to the campaign mode, to even how larger matches will play out, all remain as much of a mystery as the release date for Winds of Winter. But for fans that have been hungry for some base-building, PlaySide looks poised to deliver quite the feast.

It's still going to be a while before Game of Thrones: War for Westeros arrives, but at Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer Playside showed off some gameplay make the wait a little bit easier. First announced in 2025--and originally scheduled for a 2026 launch--Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is a real-time strategy game that features several of the franchise's legendary Houses--Lannister, Stark, and Targaryen--as well as the sinister forces of the Night King. With each faction vying to take control of the Seven Kingdoms, it's up to players to command their armies and lead them to victory
