Sony’s big State of Play announcement was God of War Laufey, the next game in Sony Santa Monica’s God of War franchise due out exclusively for PlayStation 5. While the fact the game would focus on Faye as opposed to Kratos had leaked months before the showcase, it’s fair to say Sony’s 20 minute gameplay reveal sparked a vociferous reaction across the internet.

The rumors about a new God of War game proved to be true during Sony's latest State of Play event. That's why the reveal of God of War Laufey wasn't unexpected. What was a surprise was its cubic, talking, gelatin-like companion character, Phranque (as voiced by The Boys' Jack Quaid), is the character who turned out to be the breakout star of State of Play. Marvel’s Wolverine in a violent game — this is something developer Insomniac set out to build from the very start. The X-Men legend uses his adamantium claws to stab and dismember his opponents in rage-fueled melee combat, showering them and himself in blood. We see Wolverine suffer detailed body damage, his flesh tearing to expose his adamantium-laced skeleton. This is a game not for the faint of heart. But, if you don’t like the look of all that gore, you can turn it off.
