What If George Washington Was a Girl?

The Pacific Northwest in video games is pretty uniformly creepy, dark, and wet. But how did it get like that? Polygon's Simone de Rochefort traces the history of the Pacific Northwest in media, from Alan Wake 2 and Pacific Drive, all the way back to Twin Peaks — and the new high-tech world that we live in now, dominated by Amazon and Microsoft.

Young Washington’s epic ambition clearly exceeded its limited grasp to realize its grand vision. It’s an earnest but cursory exploration of the first US President’s early years as a wannabe British officer in the French & Indian War. Those interested in the subject matter should still check it out and will likely find gratification from its storybook interpretation of the man and the events that defined him, even if those yearning for a fuller, more nuanced and truly epic chronicle of the Founding Father will be left wanting.

The adaptation may have upset Martin and Fire & Blood book purists, but the fantasy TV series from HBO deserves far more praise.
