Yooka-Laylee: Buddy Duo Pack

It's somehow been seven years since Yooka-Laylee's last proper adventure (I'm not sure 2025's remake, as enjoyable as it was, entirely counts), but the bat and lizard duo are finally back, and this time in a brand-new form. Just like Mario and Donkey Kong before it, the Yooka-Laylee franchise is expanding to a new genre: kart racing. Playtonic Games announced Super Yooka-Laylee Kart during the Summer Game Fest as part of Day of the Devs 2026.  A debut trailer showed off the racer, which looks very similar in style to classic kart racers like the original Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Playtonic Games has announced Super Yooka-Laylee Kart, a retro arcade racer fuelled by a new revenge mechanic, as well as SNES vibes.

Out of all that Super Yooka-Laylee Kart is looking to deliver, what has me most excited and that I am more interested in is its custom rulesets that players will be able to tinker around with to create custom race types. These custom rules look to extend into the grand prix mode too, as during my cup race, I encountered races that would not only turn all racers invisible in one map, but then in the next made each racer the same character. That change specifically made the race all about mastery of the game’s systems and skill, removing any differences in weight or handling between the particip
